Nottingham prepares to shine at Designersblock 09

Renowned Designers and the Nottingham City Council have come together to show their city as the place resounding with creative passion and talent.

In a joint initiative led by Sarah Davenport Design and Nottingham City Council, a group of the city’s most established Designers have been invited to play an important part of the London Design Festival. As well as exhibiting with Designersblock who will be for the first year taking over 5000sq mtr in Earls Court, Sarah is working with Designersblock to create a launch party at their HQ on the eve of the festivals’ first day.

The City Council have provided the support and funding to allow the exhibition to happen. Whilst promoting design and designers made in Nottingham, the initiative promises to attract international movers and shakers of the creative business scene to the city by showing Nottingham as a place to find inspiration and refreshment. “I think this is a fantastic way to showcase the richness of the City’s design and creative talent on a national and international stage” said Richard Kent, of City Council’s Economic Development Department, “it is also a great lead in to “Creative October” a month long programme of events within the city that will highlight not only the importance of design to the city’s economy but the positive impact it can have on everyday life”

New design products and collaborations will be introduced, some of which are being created especially for the show. Contributors include Designer Philip Watts, corsetry specialist Eternal Spirits, Nottingham Architect and Honorary Consul of Italy Valeria Passetti, innovative printers Photographic Interiors and Film Director Raj Pathak. Two new Nottingham brands will be established; Sarah Davenport will re-launch her thirty-one year design and cabinetmaking family company Davenport Cabinetworks Ltd as Sarah Davenport Design Ltd and rising star Matthew Dabbs formerly part of the Lime Studio will introduce the very first of his independent design collection.

‘Its an honour to be given the opportunity to be part of the year in which Designersblock will undoubtedly inspire a new format for Design Festivals in the future’ says Sarah. ‘The collaborative team are determined to put on a great show and make Nottingham proud with our representation. As well as promoting our individual and collaborative design skills we expect participation will pave the way for new opportunities for the city in the future.’

The launch at Designersblock will take place in London on the 18th of September and the Exhibition in Earls Court will run from the 24-27 September alongside 100% Design.
