Young London-based designer Katrin Baumgarten who recently graduated from the RCA is investigating the aesthetics of disgust.
The Disgusted object
These abstract objects respond to your behaviour and disgust becomes a part of interaction. Disgust acts here as a signal for the user, as well as for other people in the room seeing the user with their object.
As Katrin says: “I am interested in the transformation between the states of disgust to comfort, especially in the moment of abjection when touching a dead object which becomes living matter in surprise. Additionally to this intellectual uncertainty, the reaction of an inanimate object touching back can horrify users.”
