It’s not quite a year since we instigated the Bodging Milano project with co-conspiritor Chris Eckersley. The project has moved on quite a bit since the 9 designers went to the forest back in March. Since the 1st sighting at the Salone in April the original Bodging chairs have been seen at the Department of Culture Media and Sport, Designersblock 2010, The V&A, a gallery in South West London. William Warrens has now been taken on by Case and Gitta Gschwendtners is now on sale in Selfridges. We also took the same group to Bodger Dave Greens Sitting Firm factory in the summer, where over a weekend the Bodgers created variations of the chairs from the forest. The entire collection is now in production with Sitting Firm and is launched at interiors 2011. Read More…

The New English

The Wall of Great China is our celebration of locality, craftsmanship, and British manufacturing. Many of the designers we work with have developed relationships with ceramics manufacturers based in the Potteries in and around Stoke on Trent. In our search for others based in and our around Stoke doing interesting work in ceramics we put out a little call on Twitter and we were tipped off about Paul Bishop of The New English by Designersblock exhibitor Jo Angell who contributed to their Tectonic plates collection. The New English collection is made from traditional English Bone China using techniques perfected 250 years ago, with only the finest materials and unique contemporary designs. Read More…

The Broken Hearts

The Broken Hearts

We’re delighted to have DJ duo the Broken Hearts performing for us at the NEC as part of interiors 2011. They worked with us back in September on the ‘Two’s a Pair’ project we put together for the V&A. If you don’t know them they’ve been described by The Independent as, “a Hollywood musical on hallucinogenics”, Time Out commented “Turntable Goddesses Amber and Nisha are guaranteed to pull out a plethora of delights from both the DJ crate and the dressing-up box” while in the opinion of Elle “The Broken Hearts lead a new wave of female DJ groups who look and sound great”.

They’ll be performing on the evening of the 23rd from 6 until 8 at an informal soiree we’ve put together, come and mingle with the designers who’s work we’ve included in the show, chat to the speakers involved in the seminar programme, and you may even catch a glimpse of Piers famous dancing tecnique. RSVP here if you’d like to join us.

Daniel Heath is a textile and wallpaper designer working from a silk-screen printing studio based in De Beauvoir Town – a beautiful preservation area bordering Islington, London.
The imagery that Daniel creates is highly illustrative, and is inspired by the wonder and spectacle of the circus and the macabre imagery of Victoriana. Each piece of fabric and wallpaper is screen-printed by hand using traditional craft skills.

Laura Perryman Constructlight

Laura Perryman presents Construct lights exclusively with Designersblock at interiors 2011.

The lights utilise re-worked, plywood, plastic and aluminium into new exciting material combinations. Re-configuring the same shape to create multiple conclusions and light forms, laser cutting is deployed to limit wastage and create an economical conclusion.

Surface pattern is used selectively and functionally to enhance the diffusion of light in certain areas.

The clusters explore new structure and connecting surface systems causing inadvertent surfaces, shapes and patterns to appear.

Eluna Cut Brick

Eluna Cut Brick

Eluna is an innovative glass material manufactured in London and formed from reprocessed glass that would otherwise have gone to landfill. There is no quarrying involved in the production and is, therefore, more ecologically friendly than stone or virgin glass. The bricks are cut from Eluna slabs, which exposes the natural patterning of the glass as it is formed in the kiln and gives a beautiful, slightly frosted finish. The bricks can also be polished on any edge or face to achieve a stunning gem-stone like high-gloss surface. Eluna offers beautiful pure colours and organic patterns that are highlighted by natural and artificial lighting solutions.

Emiko Oki - Trophy

The Wall of Great China is our celebration of locality, craftsmanship, and British manufacturing. Many of the designers we work with have developed relationships with ceramics manufacturers based in the Potteries in and around Stoke on Trent. Mutually beneficial, these relationships give the designers the opportunity to work with craftspeople and technicians with years, often decades of experience working with ceramics. For the manufacturers it gives them the opportunity to experiment, prototype and develop products that complement their heritage ranges. Friendship, collaboration and playfulness are all part of bringing these products to market, something which should be apparent from the beautiful pieces on display here. Read More…
