Designersblock London 2010 Internet round up

Always nice to have a quick trawl around the internet and see what people have been saying about the show. Lovely response this year from among others Design Week, Core 77, Dezeen, Designboom, Inhabitat, The Crafts Council, Architonic, Coolhunting, Conran, as well as some well informed bloggers.

The BBC and Vice have both done exceptionally nice things recently about people we had in the show namely Katrin Baumgarten and Vanessa Harden.

Marin Sawa at Designersblock London 2010

Marin Sawa has created a living world in her kitchen, where she set up a molecular cooking laboratory in order to manipulate and shape algae strains. She made visible a world in which algae can be seen changing colour after being exposed to sunlight, a world in which algae can thrive in a contained, architectural environment. Her project highlights algae habitats through experimentation and scientific research. There is much ado about algae currently, from creating stronger, hybrid, high-tech strains to the mass production of algal bio-fuel and bio-oil, to the use of algae in paint. Algae are also a source of inspiration and research for chemists, microbiologists, engineers, environmentalists, designers, and even chefs.

William is presenting his work at Bargehouse with Designersblock. This piece was designed to challenge the use of metal and to showcase what could be done with limited resources and in the face of adversity. Holly was formed from hand bent tube, bar and hand beaten sheet.
