Friday, March 25th, 2011Peter Böckel is a young industrial designer from Germany. At Designersblock 2011 in Milano, he will show a collection of several furniture pieces under the title MissingLink. The collection consists of four objects which are based upon the idea of the convergence of form, function and meaning. Known patterns are abandoned, mixed and merged with each other. Marin Sawa at Designersblock London 2010
Tuesday, September 21st, 2010Marin Sawa has created a living world in her kitchen, where she set up a molecular cooking laboratory in order to manipulate and shape algae strains. She made visible a world in which algae can be seen changing colour after being exposed to sunlight, a world in which algae can thrive in a contained, architectural environment. Her project highlights algae habitats through experimentation and scientific research. There is much ado about algae currently, from creating stronger, hybrid, high-tech strains to the mass production of algal bio-fuel and bio-oil, to the use of algae in paint. Algae are also a source of inspiration and research for chemists, microbiologists, engineers, environmentalists, designers, and even chefs.

Cov Bodge at Designersblock 2010
Thursday, September 16th, 2010Back in March 9 designers went to the forest. Bodging Milano took place in Clissets wood in Herefordshire in the workshop of Gudrun Leitz. Over 4 days using only hand tools, pole lathes, and traditional steam bending techniques, 9 unique pieces were created. We then exhibited the results at Designersblock in Milan to great acclaim.
