Confluence: The future for Europe’s creative economies.

Designersblock together with the European Commission in the UK present a one day conference exploring key issues and opportunities facing Europe’s creative economies. Creativity will be the driver of future European economies but is it understood? In what ways will its impact be felt by traditional industries and infrastructures? The digital economy is already changing the marketplace for ideas. How will we be affected, as consumers and service providers? Where will we work and how can creativity revitalise our cities? What can Government and higher education learn if it is to effectively support entrepreneurialism and the growth of the creative economy? What does a new generation of creatives think? The day promises lively debate and original thought, involving 16 speakers from industry, education, government and across the creative sector.

We were delighted to get out of London the other day and along to the Opening of Stuart Melrose: Surface at the the Willis Museum in Basignstoke.

Not only does the exhibition feature several example of Stuart’s very refined Corian Furniture but also collaborations with graphic artists Kev Munday, andDroog 79, as well as textile collective Puff & Flock.

We were particularly delighted to see the work with Puff & Flock as the collaboration came about as a result of the United presentation we put together for United Business Media as part of Interiors 2010 at the NEC in Birmingham back in January 2010.

The work looks stunning and deserves to be see as wide an audience as possible. The exhibition continues until July 23rd Read More…

Since our launch in 1998 Designersblock has provided support, advice and showcasing opportunities for new businesses and graduating students starting out on their professional careers. This year we have teamed up with New Designers to offer one graduate a fantastic package of support that includes exhibition space, mentoring and desk space at our Shoreditch offices.

The prize will be awarded on the 7th July during week 2 of New Designers. Now in its 26th year, New Designers at the Business Design Centre in Islington is unrivalled in Europe in bringing together such a broad cross-section of fresh, new design talent under one roof. Every July, over 3,500 newly graduated designers, representing the top 200 UK design courses, come together at New Designers to meet industry employers, media, trend predictors and a design hungry public.

We presented over 100 UK and international exhibitors kindly supported by UKTI in this wonderful former industrial space.
