New Designers
Since our launch in 1998 Designersblock has provided support, advice and showcasing opportunities for new businesses and graduating students starting out on their professional careers. This year we have teamed up with New Designers to offer one graduate a fantastic package of support that includes exhibition space, mentoring and desk space at our Shoreditch offices.
The prize will be awarded on the 7th July during week 2 of New Designers. Now in its 26th year, New Designers at the Business Design Centre in Islington is unrivalled in Europe in bringing together such a broad cross-section of fresh, new design talent under one roof. Every July, over 3,500 newly graduated designers, representing the top 200 UK design courses, come together at New Designers to meet industry employers, media, trend predictors and a design hungry public.

Back in March 9 designers went to the forest. Bodging Milano took place in Clissets wood in Herefordshire in the workshop of Gudrun Leitz. Over 4 days using only hand tools, pole lathes, and traditional steam bending techniques, 9 unique pieces were created. We then exhibited the results at Designersblock in Milan to great acclaim. A special adventure for Fuori Salone 2010.
From 30th March to April 5th, 10 designers are going back to the furniture, living for a week in the woods of deepest Herefordshire. With the help of Gudrun Leitz and her assistant Paul, each will make a greenwood chair in Gudrun’s outdoor workshop. We are all getting out of the studio, away from drawing boards, computer screens, and mechanised equipment into the hands-on world of the original country chair-makers working without electricity with pole lathes, steam benders and hand tools.
