Confluence: The future for Europe’s creative economies.
Friday, August 5th, 2011Designersblock together with the European Commission in the UK present a one day conference exploring key issues and opportunities facing Europe’s creative economies. Creativity will be the driver of future European economies but is it understood? In what ways will its impact be felt by traditional industries and infrastructures? The digital economy is already changing the marketplace for ideas. How will we be affected, as consumers and service providers? Where will we work and how can creativity revitalise our cities? What can Government and higher education learn if it is to effectively support entrepreneurialism and the growth of the creative economy? What does a new generation of creatives think? The day promises lively debate and original thought, involving 16 speakers from industry, education, government and across the creative sector.

The Auction Room
Thursday, July 28th, 2011The exhibition is the auction room. The auction room is the exhibition. All its elements, from the chairs to the hammer, made by exciting designers are up for auction. Come visit the exhibition and place a bid* on your favourite piece. On Sunday, the bartering will take place.
The Auction Room is an exhibition curated by Mariana Pestana and Designersblock, for The London Design Festival.
The exhibition will display bespoke objects especially commissioned to reflect upon the theme of ‘fake’ and arranged as to form an immersive experience that evokes the scenario of an auction.
The exhibition encourages the viewer to ‘decode’ the display narrative: playing on reality and fiction, The Auction Room questions the format of exhibitions and the role that they play in the contemporary context of design.
It will culminate in an exciting night where the auction will happen and the audience will be able to take home amazing design pieces without spending a penny*.

Designersblock London 2010 Internet round up
Tuesday, October 12th, 2010Always nice to have a quick trawl around the internet and see what people have been saying about the show. Lovely response this year from among others Design Week, Core 77, Dezeen, Designboom, Inhabitat, The Crafts Council, Architonic, Coolhunting, Conran, as well as some well informed bloggers.
The BBC and Vice have both done exceptionally nice things recently about people we had in the show namely Katrin Baumgarten and Vanessa Harden.
Here are a few links with some thumbnail pictures of the relevant work. Read More…
