Melissa French for Puff & Flock

March 8, 2010

Girl About Town, Urban Futurist, Contemporary Designer, Melissa French is a passionate weaver and designer who questions why furnishing fabrics should be stuck inside.

The Urban Upholstery concept explores her dream of covering the entire city with bold patterns, combining floral ornament and geometry. Beyond surface pattern, she uses various metals in her weaves so they endure time and weather, evolving gorgeously through natural rusting and oxidising. Inspired by graffiti, urban guerrilla movements and traditional interior textiles and design, Melissa French wants to bring beauty, pattern, design and ultimately, surprise to the urban landscape.

Puff & Flock is a London based collective of eight female textile designers. They draw inspiration from many diverse sources, and through research and lab based approach, they create innovative and smart textiles.

Their vision and inspiration has emerged from their belief that textile designers have an enormous amount to offer in future design practice and their aim is to expand the realm of what is possible through textiles, today and in the future.

While focusing on delivering highly conceptual and experimental projects, they also work commercially with a number of companies
and regularly exhibit internationally.
