Marita Szkutnik at Designersblock 2010

Bulrush is a modern screen inspired by nature. Her piece is designed to bring playfulness and fun back into married couples’ bedroom.

It was inspired by people using tall grass, bush or trees as a screen of nature when they needed to change clothes outdoors. The screen needs the user to hang their clothes on top of the bulrushes in order to get themselves covered, of course only when they don’t want to be seen. Materials: The entire screen is made out of ash.

The bulrushes are flocked in order to give them a better grip and add softness. The screen contains 24 bulrushes on which the user can hang their clothes, all of which are on different levels. It is finished off with natural clear wax. Legs are taken from the Evergreen series from Ercol. She’s used wedged mortise and tenon joint on the legs to add more detail to the seat.
