We first worked with KithKin back in 2007 when they took part in the 3rd show we produced at the Nicholls & Clarke Building in Bishopsgate. They sent us this lovely negative record. We then went on to to work with them in Tokyo, Birmingham and Milan in Both 2008 and 2009 when they produced the wonderful Working Title daily newspaper. They also completed one of the seven windows we produced for Selfridges during the design festival in 2008.
Since the second appearance of Working Title at the London Design Festival in 2009 they’ve been in repose, variously mucking around with women’s underwear, sipping Gin and Tonics and talking about colour, predicting future trends and analysing consumer behaviour, swanning around the far east and building websites on a laptop on the beach, putting together experiments with weapons grade plutonium and dabbling in packaging design, curating exhibitions and commisioning bespoke artwork.
But now it seems the beast has stirred, and KithKin have just completed the installation of ‘Object’ in The Wonder Room at Department store Selfridges. The few pictures here should explain the concept behind ‘Object’, a project that has been described by some as ‘a remix of everyday objects’ and by others as ‘A little bit daft’. Also pictured below is the limited edition paper delivery bag produced for the occasion of the Salone del Mobile in 2009, surely one of the loveliest pieces of promotional tat ever produced. The bag is modelled here by Designersblock paper boy and creative director Rory Dodd.
We can’t help but think that a KithKin retrospective might be in order?
