This project, entitled ‘type- wrapping’, expounds the idea that typography is not limited by the 2D surface, but can also be relevant
in the multidimensional building context.
Type- wrapping proposes that by introducing craft into building construction particularly within a market dominated by industrial methods. The building’s true identity is made real through a human process – the process of the ‘handmade’.
The text is selected to promote the ethos of the building itself, or the service that it provides. Using various printed and embossed finishes, this ethos is made visually and physically tangible through colour, material, scale and surface.
The tiled motifs are designed to meet a client’s needs and are negotiated with the architect and manufacturer through to construction.
Alternative applications include logos and visual identities.
