Andrew Knott creator of the MacDulux range of Tartan paint explains his process.
‘Having previously learned and in some ways mastered the the skill of paint mixing from my time at the MacDulux paint factory in Bathgate, I developed a range of authentic Tartan paints. Each of the ten selected cloths, has carefully been chosen from the Tartan Registry for its mixture of thread colour and quality of its pattern.
A range of tests including thread count, colour analysis and patter diagnostic were performed on each of the cloths in order to extract the specific pigments and dies, transferring them to the paint in the correct order using the traditional six stage mixing process developed by MacDulux.
This attention to detail and combination of the finest raw materials including the tartan cloth used in the process creates as range of paint of such quality they dress the wall of the Lairds drawing room and create a feature in the sitting rooms of there Gillies.’
