Anirudha Surabhi showed his Kranium cycle helmet with Designersblock at the Bargehouse during the London Design Festival in 2010.
Great news that the Kranium is now in production with German manufacturer Abus.
Made from specially designed Dual density Honeycomb Board ( made from Paper), the product is both lighter and safer than conventional cycling helmets. In the video below Anirudha talks about the development and testing of the product.

A little bit about Kranium helmets
Kranium helmets are revolutionary products designed to revamp the way we see sports activity helmets thanks to its primary concern of keeping users safe at all times. The Kranium liner is based on the corrugated structure found in the woodpecker and it is this structure which provides the right about of crumple zone to absorb impact energy. Expanded polystyrene ( EPS) helmets are proven to protect your head 20% of the times. The Kranium liner has proven to absorb 3 times the amount of impact energy during collision. At the same time it is 15% lighter than Polystyrene helmets. EPS helmets are made from petroleum based products where as the Kranium liner is made from recycled paper. They have been tested at several test labs across the globe, including TUV in Germany and HPE in the UK. They have been developed for mass production and will be available in the market in December 2012.
