DeGross Design & Innovation are a London based studio that has a strong emphasis on the principles of economic, social and ecological aspects of design. They have particularly focused on efficiency. In other words, products designed are made using the absolute maximum utilization of materials and minimizing waste. Their body of work revolves very much around the ‘cradle to cradle’ concept.
What can be really appreciated and recognized in DeGross’s work is their work ethos. They have an ability to communicate and follow a clear making process. For instance their ecological project “Utrem Lux”, a new up cycled lighting product range, which has been a great success at Designersblock London 2012, demonstrates their ability to carefully communicate the whole story of the product, from the discarded glass bottles behind their studio to wood offcuts which were gifted to them by their next door neighbors.
