“Upcycled” was conceived by Jo Gibbs who was for many years a textile designer to the fashion industry. Concerned about the damage to the environment caused by the production of new fabrics, she began to look for more sustainable ways to produce new and exciting items.
She explores the changing fortunes of lace as currency and its ability to express social standing by using ‘up-cycling’ as a method in her work and by creating a brand new method called ‘Netching’.
Netching is a method of transferring lace patterns onto the surfaces of overlooked items. In this way, she breathes new life into objects in a completely sustainable way. After having done a large collection of home waree, lighting and furniture which was exhibited at the LDF 2012 with Designersblock, Jo Gibbs will be back with more to offer at Interiors 2013 with a new limited edition dinning table.
