Alexander Mueller’s Woven Easy Chair uses straight lines and angular planes to create a sense of movement within the chair’s form. The seating pattern is created by weaving waxed cord around an ash timber structure. The design is based on traditional weaving techniques reinterpreted with inspiration from Naum Gabos’ ‘Construction in Space’ works and straight line drawings.
The geometric seating pattern was created by deconstructing traditional weaving methods and examining the relation between the frame, the cord and the end user. After all, this is a functioning chair. Alexander Mueller aims to bridge the value of craft / the handmade with modern manufacturing techniques.
