Designersblock present “The Ark of Many Voices” by Marco Monterzino.
Marco Monterzino describes the genesi and gestation of his “Ark of Many Voices” project.
‘For one year I have somewhat avoided to design a product, a service or a trend.
In August 2011, when the riots took place in London, I was struck by the very nature of the loot. So I started asking myself: what is my role as a designer? After a month of participant observation at the ‘Occupy London’ protest camp, I borrowed the materials and the design languages of the artefacts made in the square to create an iconic object, one that embodies the narratives of the protest camp.
My eventual aim was to design something as powerful as a megaphone to create discourse in the public space.
Three days before the Italian political elections took place, the voices of the people were collected in the outskirts of Milano. The following day the diverse political programs of the people were carried shoulders in a procession through the city center, from Milano Centrale to Via Tortona.
The first screening of the short film “The Ark of Many Voices” will take place in April for Designersblock during the most important Design Week in the world, Fuorisalone 2013.’
Marco previously exhibited with Designersblock during the London Design Festival in September 2012. Blueprint magazine considered his work to be one of the five best things in the festival.
